Project Presentation
"Arbeitnehmer ans Netz" (Introducing Employees to the Internet)
The project "Arbeitnehmer ans Netz" (Introducing employees to the Internet) conducted by the Arbeitskammer des Saarlandes (Saarland Chamber of Employment) was launched in 2000 with the aim of introducing employees to the Internet age. The intention is to counteract the threatened division of the population into those who are familiar with the Internet and those who are not. "Arbeitnehmer ans Netz" is proving a huge success. To date, well over 5,000 employees have participated. The project is offered throughout Saarland, with a total of twelve locations making attendance possible for many women, senior citizens and people in rural areas. In the meantime, courses are also offered in Italian, Turkish and French - for cross-border commuters from France. At the moment, special measures for people with disabilities and the visually impaired and an Internet week for senior citizens are being prepared. Advanced courses ("Arbeitnehmer ans Netz II") will be available starting in Autumn 2001. "Arbeitnehmer ans Netz" was integrated into the national programme entitled "Internet für alle" (Internet for everyone) as the first measure worthy of support.
