Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is aiming to make the Web accessible and easy to use for all. The W3C was founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994. It makes recommendations and develops technologies, software and tools that enable everyone to have access to the Web -regardless of differences in culture, upbringing, ability, material resources or disabilities. Among other things, the WAI initiative makes recommendations for the design of web pages suitable for use by people with disabilities. The initiative collaborates with industry, organizations for people with disabilities, research organizations and governments in order to develop solutions for a network which is available to all. WAI is financed by W3C membership contributions and sponsors.
