Communication Camps
At the incentive of the Finnish Society for Future Studies, the first camps were set up in 1987 for children and young people with the aim of comprehensively improving their knowledge of new media. These so-called communication camps are now held every year, far away from city life. The youngsters sleep in tents, but they go to nearby buildings to use the technical equipment they need. Over a period of several days, they work together in groups to improve their media competence, editing a newspaper, doing TV and radio work, and surfing on the Internet. Individual camps communicate with each other principally via the Internet, where the participants can also call up all the information they need.
